In winter, when the weather is cold and sunlight is scarce in many countries, coffee is a must-have to get through the day. The history of coffee is traced back to Ethiopia in the 15th century.  It made its way to Europe in the 16th century after Austrians seized spoils of war from the defeated Turks.  After the Boston Tea Party of 1773, large numbers of Americans switched to drinking coffee during the American Revolution because drinking tea had become unpatriotic.

Coffee is drunk in almost every country in the world, and each country has its own culture around it:

The Danish have a word for the coziness and conviviality through drinking coffee together, kaffehygge.

In Sweden, coffee, “fika”, is a drink and a moment to slow down.  It is often served with a cinnamon roll.

In Belgium, good coffee is drunk with a sweet snack at the side, most likely a Belgian waffle.

Americans love their Frappuccinos from Starbucks or their iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts.  And fresh coffee is now widely available at the workplace with the popular Keurig machines.  Coffee comes in a handy single serve K-Cup for a fresh cup every time!
