Russell, Milhench, Harrison was originally established in downtown New Bedford in 1932. It was positioned behind the old Worley Beds Factory and stood out as the only wooden building while the other buildings around it were all brick. In the late 1960s, New Bedford had plans to build Route 18, so they bulldozed the entire neighborhood and Milhench, Inc. was moved to 777 Church Street in the early 1970s. Here, Arthur Milhench built a new building which housed sheet metal fabrication and sales of equipment and supplies. In the mid-1980s, Milhench Supply Company came to 121 Duchaine Boulevard in the New Bedford Business Park.
Selling janitorial, maintenance and packaging supplies, Milhench Supply continued to grow, and in 1998 Arthur Milhench added an addition onto 121 Duchaine Boulevard enlarging the building to 30,000 square feet. The company continues to grow today, and the current management team has worked on expanding the warehouse at 121 Duchaine for a couple of years now. Despite the challenges of wetlands, easements and new building codes, Milhench Supply Company broke ground on the new addition to our warehouse in the Fall of 2019.
We were able to add 11,000 square feet to our building and moved into the new space in the spring of 2020. Thankfully we had the new space when COVID 19 hit! And we have created efficiencies in our operations. We have been able to better organize our inventory, making it easier for our warehouse guys to put freight away, and pick orders for our customers. We are also operating out of one building now, and no longer need to rent extra storage space down the street which saves time and fuel for our trucks. In the new addition, we have skylights which bring in a lot of natural light and have installed LED lighting throughout the building, decreasing our energy needs.

Our next project will be to put solar panels on the southern roof of the new addition, so that we can continue to make our carbon foot print smaller and smaller!
