The Greenest States in the United States are:
- Vermont
- Massachusetts
- Oregon
So how does Milhench Supply contribute to the state of Massachusetts number two ranking? Actually, there are many ways in which they contribute and each is a source of pride.
To begin with, Milhench Supply is over eighty-five years old and was founded, and is still based in New Bedford, MA. There is a second location, in Medford, MA which supplies clients throughout Boston and further North. Both locations make daily deliveries of janitorial supplies, paper products, packaging supplies and facility maintenance supplies to their clients.
There are three main Green designations and Milhench Supply has many products that are available with these certifications:
- LEED – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. LEED certification means healthier, more productive places, reduced stress on the environment by encouraging energy and resource-efficient buildings, and savings from increased building value, higher lease rates, and decreased utility costs.
- GreenSeal – The Green Seal mark on products represents compliance with a rigorous set of criteria designed to achieve leadership levels in sustainability.
- FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) – The Forest Stewardship Council mission is to promote environmentally sound, socially beneficial and economically prosperous management of the world’s forests.
Many state agencies are mandated to integrate green products into their janitorial supplies and paper products. In Connecticut, all products purchased by schools need to qualify as green and many are anticipating this ruling will carry into other New England states.
For years, the sales team at Milhench Supply has offered the service of a Green Audit to customers and potential customers. The process is a comprehensive analysis of the chemicals and products you are using and where there are opportunities for your company to integrate Green options.
It’s not just State agencies who are going green through government mandates, but many small businesses throughout the country and investigating ways they can do their part in becoming more ecology friendly. The infographic below shows ways in which Small Businesses are going Green.
In the 2016 Cone Communications Millennial Employee Engagement Study it was reported that three-quarters (76 percent) of millennials consider a company’s social and environmental commitments when deciding where to work and nearly two-thirds (64 percent) won’t take a job if a potential employer doesn’t have strong corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices. Even further research shows that 83% would be more loyal to a company that helps them contribute to social and environmental issues (vs. 70% U.S. average). All of which is pretty compelling research on why going Green is good for business!
At Milhench customers have a plethora of Green products from which to choose:
- Welcome mats made from 100% recycled soda bottles protect the front of buildings from dirt and outside elements being carried into buildings.
- Paper towel – made from 100% recycled paper. Whitened without chlorine bleaching. No dye or fragrance added. 2-ply.
- Touchless Soap Dispensers & Foam Soap – auto dispensing systems use less product, which in turn results in visitors using less water. Milhench Supply has many products in the touchless equipment category, such as Nexa Classic Touch Free Dispensers from Ecolab. Ecolab packages soap as a concentrate in reusable containers. On-site, your staff dilutes and mixes the solution. Overall the reusable materials and the concentrate have less impact on the environment as the packaging and shipping both utilize fewer materials and resources. The use of less water is another global and local benefit.
- Chemicals – utilizing chemicals that are Green also have many broad-reaching positive effects on the environment. Overall they contain less fragrance and are less processed than non-green products.
If your company is exploring options to become more Green, please contact Milhench Supply and we will arrange a Green Audit to help you review your current practices and identify areas for improvement.
